In a groundbreaking shift in drug policy, British Columbia, Canada, has decriminalized the personal possession of small amounts of certain illegal drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and opioids—from January 2023 to January 2026. Under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, adults in the province can now carry these substances in public spaces without facing criminal charges.
